Fleshy, densely branched shrub. with jointed stems. Bright-green, glossy heart-shaped leaves, up to 120mm wide, often have insect holes. Peppery to taste.
with hard green flower spikes inhabiting south to Banks Peninsula. Plants are male or female. Both have tiny flowers arranged on upright spikes, August to November, followed by orange fruit on female plants only. Prefers partial shade with moist, free-draining soil.
