This talk continues our exploration journey into the world of kākahi, Aotearoa’s native freshwater mussels, focusing on their populations across the Tāmaki Makaurau Auckland region.

We’ll share exciting discoveries, including the rare species Echyridella aucklandica, recently rediscovered in streams in Auckland’s northwest. Learn why this find matters for biodiversity, what makes these taonga species so unique and how we can help protect them for future generations.
