Hands-on Workshop | Citizen Science Biodiversity Programme | Fish & Stream Vertebrate Identification
Join us to explore and protect the thriving ecosystem of Te Ara Awataha! Following the successful daylighting of the stream and the flourishing regeneration of Papa Ki Awataha, Kaipātiki Project is launching a new community initiative to deepen our collective understanding of the Greenway’s ecological health.
What’s involved?
Come along to hands-on workshops where you’ll learn to identify and record fish and stream invertebrate species using real ecological survey methods — no experience needed! Together, we’ll carry out baseline surveys of the newly stabilised stream, giving us a snapshot of aquatic life that will help guide future restoration efforts.
We’ll also be assessing aquatic vegetation and targeted weed species to understand how plant communities support fish and invertebrates, and where habitat improvements can be made.
